There is a ton of load placed on those bearings. That groove causes the bearing to deform under load, and that deformation leads to early fialure. You must fix the groove, not an option.

Is the groove where the seal rides, or directly under the bearing itself? If the axle is worn under the bearing, allowing the bearing inner race to spin on the axle, you may need to replace the axle. I don't think there is a repair kit for that.
