Fuel problems?

I just bought a boat that had bad fuel in the tank, motor would barly start. I just pumped out all gas, but I am sure a little is left (1or2g). Its @ 30/35g tank
If I put in new fuel, it should mix with bad fuel but will be OK----- correct??
(I am going to put in marine Staybil) (sp?)

Read an article in a trade mag. about bad gas, and it said gas is like milk, if milk went bad would adding fresh milk make it good? Would adding chocolate to it make it good, or say adding vitamin D to bad 2% make it good No to all of the above, when it's bad it's bad and the only way is to get all the bad fuel out of everything, Tank, hoses,Oil mixing pump if equiped, all fuel lines under the cowling and from the carbs. Any gas put in the tank after the fuel system has been drain/cleaned should have some type of fuel stabilizer for Ethenol treatment to prevent future problems after you go to all the trouble to make it right.

Not to discount what you guys have said it does make sense! What I was told by 2 people at the river, that recenty had same problem-- the shop do not pull the built-in tanks out of boats to completey empty them, They have a guy come by and pump gas out. then put new gas in and test run. I can only assume some gas is left in tank. This gas can not be helpful to new gas, but I am hopeful it will not affect it bad enought to prevent burn off. AS it does burn already. ( just not well)
Again I am open to all suggestions and not knocking ANY!!

Yep goood luck you mighta got what we call down here gettn sc----d . Hope not good luck. Also pull the boat on a leaning parking spot and siphon the rest of the gas out!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Then put 3 gal. of premium gas, 2ouces of the blue stuff 2 ounces of stabil and get some one to go out and bring another boat in case you need a tow. Put the new boat in and run the Pi-- out of it till it runs out of gas. Carry a 5 gal. can of more premium with 3oz. of blue stuff and 3 oz. of stabil and run for a little while if the first dose of clean treated fuel works. Also you didn/t tell us what kind of boat and motor you bought. Post some pictures of the rig and I will come and take it off your hands if you get Pi--ed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What you have said is exactly my plans tomorrow. I have 6g can full of good fuel (out of my other boat) with fuel line to connect it, if boat does not run off fuel in in built-in tank.
I just need to stay close enough to ramp that 6g will get me back-- or The trolling motor ( new fully charged batt!)

I didn't mention, I drained/ cleand carbs, replaced fuel lines from tank to carb and install new fuel filter! Have run 5g of fresh fuel thru motor. Motor runs great! As I stated old fuel would barly start-- (it did start and run)
Main thing I was asking was, if mixing 1-2g of older fuel would hurt if I add 20 -30 g fresh. It won't, I have heard from those I trust.
If I could I would get every drop out, but that is rairly going to happen in this situation.

All built in tanks have a fuel sender, and if you take out that sender you can see the bottom of the tank, put dolly jack on a cinder block and crank it all the way up thus running all the gas to the back of the thank then a hose and a primer bulb and no more gas. Tom

I bought a boat that had sat for over 6 years. I drained the tank and thought I had it completely empty. I installed a used motor, external fuel filter and when I filled the tank, it only took 28 gallons in a 37 gallon tank. Obviously I didn't get all the old gas out. The motor ran fine, but I did change out the external fuel filter a few times the first season. It was ethanol free gas, and that's why I probably got away with it, plus it was a plastic tank, so no corrosion.
