Get you a piece of cold roll steel and cut your own. Just get the same diameter as the one that broke. They'll be a little bit softer but it will protect your prop better.

Can I get that at a regular hardware store?

your orginal shear pin was probably brass. go to a gas place that sells acetylene and oxygen tanks for welders. look up welding supplies in the phone book. they will have brass brazing rods of the same size. take part of your pin to them and they will sell you a stick of the brass rod and you can easily cut some yourself. what ga bowman said will work but it can also damage your lower unit or they wouldn't use brass pins to begin with. i've cut nails the same size and used nails with no damage to the lower unit but a nail is softer than cold rolled steel rod. i'd go with the brass rod to be safe.

The Ole one is right on. Brass rods do the trick very nicely

I bought a 3/16 brass rod at Lowes and put it in the power drill and lathed it down to the right diameter with a file, is it okay if it is just a tad loose?

You can get cold roll steel anywhere there is a welding shop. As long as the brass rod doesnt have alot of flop in it from being a little undersized it'll be alright. If the brass shears too fast go with the cold roll. It's still plenty soft enough to shear before any damage comes to the prop.

tall, again, go to a place that sells oxygen and acetylene gas and they will have the brass rods that will fit close enough for your motor. with that small a motor i would not use, as i have, a nail or as one mentoned cold rolled steel rods for the shear pin. your motor may not stand that much stronger pin. i would use brass. period. cut several and keep them with you.
