Tilt & Trim Question

Might seam like a dumb question but I have never had this situation before. I always either have my motor either on the support pole or just all the way down, but the other day I raised the motor all the way up so I could get the mower under it and then left it that way for a few hours while I finished mowing and then when I came back to let it down it was already down. Is that normal for it to bleed down like that? There was nothing that leaked out and when I am in trim mode it holds just fine. Its like it just slowly worked its self down until it came to the trim portion and stopped. Am I worrying too much about this or do I need to have it checked out? Thanks

Not sure what kind you have but there should be a manual relief screw somewhere on the unit. This lets you raise or lower the motor in case you have problems with the T/T and need to move it by hand. Make sure this is tight and that its seating properly. Billy

It is a 96 Model Mercury OptiMax 150 Horse Motor on a DX180 Skeeter Bass Boat. I will look for the screw. Does the tilt & trim use a hydraulic fluid or is it air operated? Thanks for the suggestion.

It uses tilt and trim fluid....the relief valve screw should be on the left side of the motor mount....It will be in a recessed hole that should have a arrow circleing around it. If this screw is tight then your packing rings in your tilt and trim cylinder are worn and by-passing fluid.

Thanks for the info, but a question. If the screw is loose would there not be fluid leaking out that I would see and the same with the packing rings also?

Don't know about the plug, but the packing rings in question are internal can't be seen without tear down.
