    Default Electrical questions ?

I am in the process of rewiring a boat. I have a 80# Minn Kota TM. 16 ft run from Batterys to TM. What size wire do I need? I don't have the AMP draw. I am sure MK can supply that. Can I run the same size wire for all my instruments and Hummingbird? Is it necessary for the wire to be tinned ? Should the HB power cable be shielded ? Any qualified help will be appreciated.

Personally, I would use stranded wire #6 for the TM and stranded #12 for everything else. Every thing else being FF, tach, etc. - not anything with any amp draw more than 20A. No tinned wire necessary. No shield on FF supply.
Now, let the games begin. I got it started, now we'll see what comes out of the woodwork. :D :D Some body has to present a target.

Thanks you answered my question. I just remembered that i went threw this 30 yrs. ago. I used #10 on everything because I had a source. It has worked for 30 yrs and I have not had a problem.

#10 will work fine for your instruments but not the trolling motor 80#thrust
is the trolling motor 12 or 24 volts 12 volts i would not use anything less than
#8 but prefer #6.24 volts i would not used anything less than #6 reason for the gauge of wire is how you want the trolling motor to work lesser the gauge
    lost of amps.

I appreciate the info. It has taken me 2 weeks to find 6GA in Columbus Ga. It is always in the last place you look. Got it on order and dont know when I will ever get it. I have an abundance of 12 ga. This is a done deal. Thanks.

    12 ga is over kill.

Most of your circuits will be fine with 16ga wire. The gauge is determined by the amp draw and resistance. Im not finding the site I used, but will keep looking.

If "most" of your circuits will be fine with 16 ga., then I figure they will be finer with 12, especially since you got it already.
