[Lundman A-14]

I have to say that I am glad to see this section for boats,motors,and trailers
on this site. Not very many fishing sites have them. And since I am on the subject,I would like to mention that I am looking to possibly upgrade in the
boat and motor dept. I currently own a 1973 Sea Nymph 14R boat with a mid
1960's Evinrude Fastwin 18 motor. I am looking at a much newer,...but pre-owned,...2008 Lund A-14 w/ 15 HP Yamaha four stroke motor,and trailer.
Not sure if it is going to work out at this time,but I am going to take a shot at it anyway. The dealer wants to look at my boat and determine it's value first,and then go from there. My boat is in pretty good shape for her age.
I choose Yamaha for their reputation for reliability,and getting away from the
old carbed two stroke technology. Anyone on here run Yamahas,and if so,what
is your opinion of them?

Yamaha is a very dependable motor but the power to get the 15hp up on plane isn't near the same as you already have but the top end will be fairly close. You need a 20hp Yammy to get the same performance as that old 18 gives you and the fuel economy is great great great. You need to run it first because it may not have enough power for your needs

Thanks for your response to my post,first of all. However,the Lund A-14 is only
rated for 15 HP max. How do I know that? I had one once before,but the first
one had a 15 HP Merc two stroke. If this works out,...I am confident that since
the A-14 is rated for 15 HP max.,...the 15 HP Yamaha will be okay on that boat.
But then again,I'd like to run it first before I buy,as you suggest. Of course,I am
not out to set any speed records,either. I am mostly after much better fuel economy and cleaner emissions than I am top speed. And heck,anyway,...most of the lakes I fish on have 10 MPH speed limits,..with the exception of a couple large reservoirs I fish frequently. Last,but certaintly not least,...I want reliability,dealer availability,and parts availability. Evinrude dealers,and parts
availability are becoming scarce around my area of the nation. I am seeing
more and more Yamaha,Mercury,and Honda dealers anymore these days.
