    Default Fathead/Rosy red minnows

Does anybody in Maryland use rosy red minnows/fathead minnows to fish with to catch crappie?

I had to look them up. The rosey red is a feeder fish soldin pet stores. So I imagine it would be the same type of deal as using goldfish as bait which is a big no no. I'm with Tear I use jigs with plastics. Theywill out fish minnows the majority of the time. Crappies are sight feeders sobright colors will get their attention first.

Rosy reds are fathead minnows and legal. I have some that reproduce in a small frog pond. Honestly, no difference in catch rates compared to standard fatheads, IMO. I also use plastics mostly, but sometimes they just want a minnow.

Now if you really want a higher catch rate use shiners... big shiners... (insert sarcastic remark now) If you can keep them alive that is.. heck they will die from looking at them wrong..

I don't understand that about shiners. When I was a kid there was a bait shop in Fairfax Virginia and the lady that owned the place would leave the shiners outside in a non aerated bucket and we had no problem keeping them alive. Now if you change the temp of the water they die. I have never tried rosy reds but I have herd people use them.
