    Default Tidal Potomac 3-14-12

    March 14, 2012
    Air: 72º to 81º
Wind: 5 to 10 MPH S to SW
Water: 55º to 58 on the river, 58º to 62º off the river
    Clarity: 6” to 10”
    Tide: High thru falling

We launched around 10:30am at the last of the rising tide. Robby and I hadn’t hooked up for fishin’ in 2 years. We did a lot of reminiscing of all the shared trips since 1973. We had more fun BS’ing than fishin’. But the fishin’ did hurt none.

We were targeting mainly crappie with minners & jigs but did manage to throw some lures for bass.

Whereas I have been disabled (left hand problems) for a couple months, it was great just to get out. I finally caught my first fish of 2012, a 1.5 lb. bass on a minner. Robby’s first fish was the same.

We did get to take in some of nature’s beauty. Robby was inspired by some red-breasted mergansers on the water, while I thought the Osprey flying over several times, was cool.

    A closer look.

We ended up with about 40 crappie being caught. Not being able to really grip with my left paw in order to clean fish (yet), we only kept ten or so for Robby to dine on. We caught several white perch, a lone yeller, about 10 bass up to 2lbs. and my prize of the day, my first stinky fish.

The snakehead hit a Red Eye Shad in Sexy Shad.

Back at Robby’s afterwards, I was admiring some of his old mounts that he did, and was impressed with this one much more than the bass and other fish.

great report and photos. Snakehead is on my bucket list too. Went last year with nothing to show for the effort.

Yea I love that little rig. It does have it's limitations but for some places like at that location it can't be beaten. I actually picked up boat, motor, trailer and fish finder for $300.00 from a guy who was heading to FL. See you on the water.
