Crappie Fishing Spots from shore
Hi,
I am new to crappie fishing. I am strickly a shore fisherman as I do not have a boat nor do I any buddies who does. I fish in Joppatowne, md at a place called the Rock Quarry and at the Marina Park. Both of these areas are decent crappie fisheries, with the former being the better of the two. Where else in MD may I find excellent shore fishing for crappie? I perfer waters that are tidal due to licensing. I rarely fish waters deemed "fresh" as they require another fishing license. Thanks.

Those are some good areas for winter. I don't know of any better around here.

We did some work yrs ago on the hospital in Harve de Grace and used to fish before and after work right in Tydings park and do real well on yellow perch.I would think crappie may be there too.

It pays to look for warm water outlets this time of year from street drains, factory outlets, etc. Normally our fishing waters have a pretty hard top, but there are a few that stay open due to what comes out of them. We have one spot up here on the Mississippi that over the past few weeks has produced not just some fantastic crappie bite, but also good sized bluegills, bass, carp and even a couple of sheephead (freshwater drum). A lot of different kinds of fish show up there in cold weather, and all sizes of them.
Our best is always about 3 or 4 feet deep rather than one that dries up between rains, etc. Best if the culvert is permanently down in the water. We take everything there on crappie jigs and light tackle. That one is a large culvert and we can stand on top of it and either flip back inside or swim the baits right in the mouth. When it is running hard after a storm if forms a very nice eddy with the current it flows into that seems to concentrate baitfish. We also have far better luck with our plastics than minnow fishermen do there.

a few under sized yellow perch but that's about it.
