my father purchased and outboard motor 8hp mercury a couple of months ago from some guy on craigslist, he didn't realize that the title# plate was missing on the motor... he wants to get a boat license but with the proof of sale it ask for the motor title and he is concerned because he has no title for it... i would like to know if there is something he can do or if you guys have any ideas that can be of any help! thanks

Now why would anyone remove the plate???

    Unless it was stolen.

Chances are it will show up in a police report somewhere.

I can see the plate missing on some motors, as they are just a sticker. Most states don't title motors. Find out how you would title a motor brought in from another state.

Md doesn't require any titling of motor, only the boat.
