Default Still Shallow but No Females

Last week, I caught what seemed to be all dark males, and yesterday, seems like it was the same. What was pretty interesting is that if I caught a fish on a single, large stump, it was an 11-12" fish, while the ones I caught on barren, shallow bank in 3' of water were all 9.5-10". I did have something else happen that was pretty cool....over the last couple of years, I've sunk several homemade brush piles, but haven't had much success yet. Yesterday, I fished one that I put out last year, and I caught 5 fish, 5 straight casts in a row, so I was pretty pumped about that. I caught all of them about 1.5-2' under a cork on a chartreuse 1/50 oz Bobby Garland weedless jig head with a black/chartreuse Big Bite triple tail jig. The water temperature was 70-73 degrees, so I'm guessing the majority of the females have already dropped their eggs. It surely was a blast!

Follow up to my original post: I was absolutely wrong! They are definitely actively spawning. At least half of the "males" were females with eggs....lol. We have a cold front coming through tonight, so the conditions will be pretty bad tomorrow. Have to work all week, so hopefully, they'll still be some there next weekend.

I've preached and preached "Situational Awareness", if you plan on catching Crappie consistently observing and remembering what worked as well as what didn't is critical to repeated success fishing. Regardless if you were right or wrong at the time of your first post you were paying attention, not just fishing. Well done in my book. Thanks for posting.

Amazing that you've already got them spawning. Tehy will not all spwn at the same time. A few day's before the next full moon will probaly have another wave. My guess is these fish moved up on the new moon around the 17th. Scott
