Jig heads with welded eyes?

Does anybody make a head for crappie with solid eyes? I’ve had several nice fish get off because of the line slipping out the hook gap when using a loop knot?! Any suggestions? Thanks guys.

There are several with solid eyes but would need to search for exactly what you wanted in a jig. Something you can do to help the others is squeeze them with pliers to tighten the eye, add a drop of glue and allow to dry or powder paint them which helps. While I prefer a loop knot if I have jigs with open eye or I’m fishing line size small enough to escape I tie a palomar knot which helps too.

Dave I do tie a Palomar most times but have tried the loop knot more lately & the knot coming out of the gap just aggravates me. Lol

Most jigs over 1/32 oz aren't a problem for me. I have had some 2 lb test be a problem on jigs, but I don't go below 4 lb now. Most better quality jigs like crappie/trout magnet do not have a problem. Try using a larger line or crimp the eyelit closed. Hope this helps.

I’m using 15lb. braid to a 10lb. mono leader. I’ve tried the crimp thing & it’s aggravating too.

10lb mono leader and still knot slip off hook eyes? How big is a gap? Maybe superglue with baking soda to close the gap or try with snap swivel instead of loop knot?

I got fed up with this problem myself. The only proactive method that I've come up wirh is going to a craft store (lots cheaper than tackle shop) and buy a package of small split rings. Using this method, I have the action of the loop knot and still have the strength of the palomar.

Agravating, yes, but not as agravating as losing a goodun. At least I'm doing it for my own pours and not finished produt that I've bought.

I had the same problems with loop knots slipping out often when I used small diameter braided line, even though I would tighten down the eyelet with pliers. I tried many different types of line, but now use 6 lb ACC Crappie Stix copolymer line and have had great results. It has a little bit of stretch and not as bad line twist, like mono does, but also has the strength of fluorocarbon. I still make a habit of tightening down the eyelet and slightly opening the bend of the hook with every jig head I tie, though.

I have a few in my stock that aren’t quite closed. A quick squeeze with the pliers has served me well.
