    Default black crappie rule

The rule here is if you find crappie , the really shallow crappie in the summer months will most likely be black crappie . Not sure why they rule the upper water column where they coexist , it's quite possibly because of the preferred diet items , but to be sure if you see fish on your electronics in formations on vertical cover here , most of the fish that are up in the shorter water are blacks , with the fish well under them being white crappie .
Now in my case I simply apply what I know about this behavior when I visit spots that have both species since most of the time I am trying to ketch em blind .
This even plays the same, in areas where there are fish in 10 to 12 fow and fish out in 16 to 20 on lots of lakes here .
I employed this knowledge the other day and ran a jig just under the dock structure to ketch some black crappie , mostly because the deeper water white crappie were being rather finicky that visit .
...the black crappie were about 3 to 4 foot deep and the white ones were around 10 to 11 foot deep , So out on timber in say 25 to 30 fow and there are fish at 8 to 10 and more fish at 16 to 20 .....its very probably this type of scenario ....
keep it in mind the next time you hit the water , luck to ya
