Knot (connecting 2 lines) hanging in spool while casting

Any ideas how to keep the knot that is used to connect backing to line from catching while casting.

To better explain -
I want to fill the spool with backing so that only 50 yards of fishing line (light braid) is used. The problem is when casting the knots causes the spool to hang while casting. I’ve tried making a small ball on the knot with Solar Glue, but hoping for a better fix.

What knot are you using? Also, you might have to put a little more braid on than 50 yards so that you have another layer of braid to cover up the knot. Fortunately, braid is one of those lines that you can use for a while, strip off and flip to the other end and use a while longer before replacing if you are concerned about cost and getting the most from your money.

I’ve tried different knots. Alberto, FG, Uni, etc… The braid is so thin, it seems grabs any knot.

I’m wondering if a piece of painter’s tape might work. Maybe a small piece of shrink tube.

You could try painter's tape or shrink tubing to smooth it out, although I haven't had issues with FG or double uni for tying braid to anything (whether backing or leader). I'm still thinking that you may need more braid wound on so that your casting distance isn't affected by the knot because the last bit of the cast will still have a layer or two of line covering the knot.

What diameter of your backing line? Bigger line, bigger knot. As @jjue mentioned and I completely agreed if your braid catching knot while line flying out meaning your main line quite a bit short. Using tape (electrical tape wrapped around) help but you loose ability of the line behind tape. I use plumber tape to cover the knot and build up backing to make my spool always full after main line being cut. My backing is 2-4lb mono and may main line is 6-8lb Nanofil. Most filling spool come with 150 yards, I recommend 75 yds each spooling. Then follow whatever @jjue recommended.

I use mono backing , uni to uni to braid. Trim tag ends very close. Then fill with braid. Braid is not that expensive when you consider how long it
lasts.

electrical tape over the knot after connecting works for me as well as less backing and more main line. I've also had luck digging the knot into the spool as soon as it hits the spooled line, use a fingernail or even a small screwdriver, flat of course.

I normally spool 75 yards of braid and when one end wears out, I pull it out in the yard, cut it from the backer line. Then tie the used end to the backer line and respool. I haven't had knot issues doing it this way.

DD .... I think the others have pretty well covered their version of "how to" .... so I'll only add a to what Justinp61 has said.
I take it you are not casting your bait 150' and I'm assuming the braid is 8/1 or 10/2 and 50yds isn't enough to cover the knot efficiently enough to stop the braid hangup when casting. And if that's so, then the easiest fix would be to put a longer section of braid on the reel so that the knot is still completely covered by several layers of braid after having made your longest possible cast.

I use the ' Crazy Alberto' , to tie on leaders, goes thru rod eyes smoothly.
