6/30/2024 Pond Fishing Big Mud Cat Surprise

Headed to our tree farm to select and down a couple of trees in case we have a chilly winter here in the Deep South. Austin and my Bride tagged along to help out. My grandson Austin brought a pole and a few jigs to try his luck in our pond while we cut trees.

my bride and I heard him screaming “I got a big one”. So we jumped in our mule and headed to the pond. He had caught a 5 inch red ear and hooked it on a #4 circle hook. An 11 lb 4 oz mud cat inhaled the bait and the fight was on. We arrived just as he pulled the Hugh fish onto the bank.

It was a new record for our pond. Shattering the old record of 8lbs by over 3 lbs.
