    Default Pulling Jigs Questions

Hi All. turning 70 this year and decided to back off the throttle a bit to 3 days a week and have some extra time to spend on the water. Been in the construction business all my life so my fishing was from October thru 2nd week of May. Fish mostly Lake of the Ozarks, Mark Twain and Truman. Have always had great success pulling jigs on these lakes but never tried it during the summer months. looks like most folks are pulling or pushing cranks during this time. The thermocline usually sets up between 18 and 24 feet at the various lakes which will locate the fish somewhere between the surface and the thermocline. Has anyone ever pulled jigs during this period or is it just not productive. Curious what everyone has to say on this. Appreciate everyone on the site, enjoy and learn much from you all!

Yes you can still catch fish pulling jig’s during summer!
Just will have to run heavier jigs and some weights if you don’t like pulling doubles which is what I used to do to get the jigs deep as you need them . Of course you can play with the speed to help ya on depth as well. Good luck and post some pictures of those summer time slabs that you catch pulling jigs.

Hi Slabprowler. At times in late Feb and early Mar I’ve used different weight combos to get the jigs really deep such as 1/8 and 1/4 or two 1/4’s and slowed to .6 and .7 at times and have had success. The other day I was at a local tackle shop and picked up some different in-line weights with the rubber core with the nubs on the end that twist the line in the groove. Have you ever used those? If not do you have a favorite weight that you use? Thanks

No specific weights just kelp different size split shots on hand double jigs is mostly how I would adjust my depth I may run a 1/8th with a 1/16 or just which ever combo I needed to reach just above the fish hardly ever had to go deeper than 18’

I want to say that he's had a few long line podcasts on his Crappie Connection podcast that are a good listen while driving around.
