I use a 10 ft and fish in Lilly pads in Florida and it does well . I use 6 pound braid with it . Anything over that length starts getting heavy to me ..

I have a lot of long rods for scoping from 15' to 18' in all the big brands, gotta use them around here in the shallow lakes. I always used a 14' BnM PST and a BnM BGJP 16' from my spider rig days before all the companies started building dedicated scope rods.

Huckabee, BnM, HH, Jenko, fished and still own them all.

Handle placement, stiffness, balance and price are really the main factors. Most of the dedicated scope rods are going to be fairly stiff. An 18' is not doable for me in windy conditions, so I rarely even grab it. The Jenko X-15 is very hard to beat. Its very light, well balanced with its brass weighting system and it fishes like a 16' with its short handle length and placement. The Jenko is also a two piece rod which is a rarity for a rod that long.

If I had to take just two rods on deck every trip, it would be a 16' K-rod and the X-15 easily.

K-rod is a Todd Huckabee rod. Its a pretty common rod and has serious backbone. I bet you can find one used someone bought and didn't like the long length.

A couple of my rods have 12-15lb braid, the rest have 6-8lb Fluoro. I only run 1/8th ounce and 1/4 on braid poles. Lighter jigs I just use the poles with Fluoro and/or days with temps well under freezing where the braid wants to freeze up and you're constantly dipping your rod. Its always windy here too, where the braid can give you fits of wrapping around the tip. I got a love/hate with braid and usually only use it if the bite is really fast and short or Im in thick cover probing piles getting snagged now and again.

Ive got an HH Tsunami. It's alright. I've fondled a K-rod a few times and would rather have that. Would love to check out the 15 and 17ft ozarks but just havent had an opportunity.

I have Tsunami also, its a great rod and high quality. I just cant get used to those dayglow yellow rings around the rod all down it. It seems like my eyes get drawn to that constantly while using it. I still keep it rigged up and on deck. Having said that, Im not a huge fan of the red blanks that Huckabee uses. Any colors go a long way when youre dealing with a 15-18' rod.

I use 16' Southern Crappie Rods as the outside rods in my longlining spread. I really like them a lot. I have a long telescoping handled net so I don't have to risk breakage from boat flipping. As said by others, you have to be careful with line wrap around the top when they're that long....

Its my favorite too, out of all of my long rods. 90+% of the time its whats in my hand. Deeper water, I will pick up the K-rod or the ghost just because they're a tad stiffer.
