Crappie.com family and brothers in Christ,
The tests results came back that the cancer has metastasized to my dads brain, lungs, and rib bones in addition to the kidney cancer itself. Sadly, the same day as receiving this news, yesterday my dad had a seizure and is now partially paralyzed on his right side. He is unable to walk without assistance or use his right leg in its full capacity. Sometimes he can manage a couple steps. Last night he was taken to the hospital in an ambulance where they confirmed this was caused by a tumor in his brain and associated swelling that is effecting his motor skills.
Today, my dad was discharged from the hospital, but his life is seemingly changed forever as we know it. He will need a wheelchair or walker and can’t drive for the foreseeable future due to the seizure and physical limitations.
My family is trying to get him the care he needs as quickly as possible. He will start radiation therapy as soon as he can have a helmet made to protect the rest of his brain from the radiation. The care plan for the rest of the cancer will be discussed with doctor next week, but the primary concern at this time is starting treatment for his brain asap due to it effecting his motor skills.
May I ask the prayer warriors to please pray for my dads healing if it is the Lord’s will and to be at peace with his diagnosis. We would love for the tumor to shrink and him regain his walking skills again. I’d also like to request prayer for my sweet mother who is going through this at his side. Lastly, I’d like to request prayer for myself and wife that we can be at peace until we can see him again. Because we had Covid, we haven’t been able to be at my dads side through this ordeal.
My family is shocked at how quickly this disease has effected my dad since initial diagnosis. Prior to diagnosis, he had zero symptoms. It has been very difficult for us all, but my dad has a good attitude about it. I admire his optimism and hope to embody that type of courage and optimism in my own life with the Lord’s help. I know the prayers help us so much and I thank every one of you for your continued loving and faithful prayers.
Love,
Richard Copeland aka Slab Apprentice
