Default Tying on jig with loop knot

Why do you see people tying on jigs with loop knot? Any advantage to the jig “hanging” loose?

The jig is said to hand more naturally in the water. Not being influenced by the knot being tight onto the eye of the hook

    What Jack said.
The knot has no influence on the jig if not cinched up to the eye. It in a way allows the tail to do its job easier.

Take two pieces of line, tie a jig with a loop knot and the other with a knot cinched up to the eye. Drop them both in a bucket of water and notice how much more natural the jig with the loop knot sits in the water. I was amazed the first time it was shown to me.

Here is a link to a short video by a fellow that has caught a few crappie over the years. His reasoning for using a loop knot is toward the end.

small fish and other food items mostly position themselves parallel to the surface .
a loop knot allows a jig to remain in that same position even after a missed bite and or a fish in hand without any adjustment.
plus it is a strong knot and stupid easy and fast to tie .
no other knot seems to even come close to as good in my experience

Small diameter line and an eye of the hook not completely closed could result in the loss of a jig

I loop mine thru the eye twice before I tie my loop knot even with braid. Some jigs do have what I consider to be sharp (maybe thin) wire which will cause the line to break easily.

Going thru the eye twice sure helps and does not seem to hurt the action or how it hangs more horizontal. JMO.
