Default Live well overflow when crappie fishing

My bass tracker has a drain tube type live well that does not recirculate. The problem I'm having is when I crappie fish, they tend to lay across the top of the drain tube and the livewell overflows. Has anyone else had this issue and found a good remedy? I'm thinking something to cover the drain tube or a float switch. Looking for pics and ideas.

make a dome shaped cover for the overflow made out of screen wire.

I had the same problem so I put a screen that's made to fit in the intake fitting. Well they kept knocking it out of the fitting and the screen would get this slime/scum in the screen pores so it would overflow again. I went to a cooler, lazy I guess. Sometimes it gets old fixing my problem stuff because I'm always fixing everyone else's problem stuff.

I have not had that problem yet. When I got my Tracker earlier this year. On the first trip I threw a fish and and turned on the the pump. Not knowing the pump would put in more water than the tube would let out. When the back of the boat was low in the water I realized I had a problem. Took a good 12 minutes to empty the bilge. I have since installed a valve to throttle the discharge of the pump to prevent overflows

My overflow pipe was too tall....so I shortened it some and I also put a timer on my live well and added a air pump also on a timer. All is good now.
I have spent most my life fishing........the rest I wasted.

A timer is a good investment. Its rare the times they have to run all the time.

Mine had this on it. Fish, slime or scales never stopped it up.
