    Whats the best settings for this type of unit for crappie fishing,

    It is just a sonar unit, what im having trouble with is that when i set my lower depth to 30ft it will push everything to the top of the screen and then you cant see anything but a red green line at the top.

    That red green band at the top is most likely surface clutter ... there is a Surface Clutter setting under the Sonar tab (higher setting = see more surface clutter — lower setting = see less surface clutter) ...

    There is also the option of removing a set distance of the upper water column where you wouldn’t even see the surface clutter (Upper Range setting is in the Xpress Menu - press the Menu button one time) ...

    There is also the option of turning off the 83kHz transmit under the Sonar tab in the setting Beam Frequency (the 83kHz transmit signal is usually the culprit of the surface clutter present at the top of the Sonar screen simply because the wider beam angle of 60° “sees” more junk in the upper water column than the 200kHz 20° Sonar beam) ...
