Winter Crappie
Maybe I'm just terrible at it, but I have been trying the trolling method at Lake Weiss now for a few weeks and we haven't caught a fish yet despite having the helix's loaded with baitfish and suspended crappie. I've been in about 20 foot of water on average and have marked fish from 7-15 feet consistently with no bites. We finally caught our first fish this Saturday trolling .8 mph as we picked up a 3 lb. striper off the back of the boat. We have tried trolling anywhere from .5 mph-1.5 mph and have nothing to show for it. We have some 1/16th roadrunners, 1/8th roadrunners, 1/16th jigs in an assortment of colors as well as 1/32 jigs. Just haven't been able to buy a bite. Not sure what we are doing wrong to have fish consistently on the depth finders and not have anything to show for it.
We figured out that trolling at around 1 mph puts our lures at about 10 foot by getting in 10 ft of water and touching the bottom but can't find out why we can't catch any fish. My dad and I have caught fish in the spring time by throwing around brush but have never caught anything trolling. Any and all advice would be appreciated.
