Default Cowboys and Indians anyone ?

Took a little short boat ride the other day with my bud . It was a before work kinds thing .
We hit a spot that has very few black crappie in it and does not even have a lake record set for them. The state didn't even believe me they were in there until about 3 years ago . Told the park rangers more than once I managed one or 2 about once or twice a year in there and they said no sir ,we are unaware of any existing in this water body .
So I told them I will bring one up to the ranger station next time I ketch one and you can do the 27 color glossy images and send them to Austin and see what they think . Well next visit they hey you were right ,it was a black crappie...go figure right ...
So fast forward to my recent visit , we stopped said boat on a ledge on top of a herd of fish .We pitched jigs at them and the first 5 in the boat were BLACKIES ! Heck the # 6 fish was actually even a hybrid version . Then poof they were gone ….next up was whites one after another without moving the boat .
So early on we played Cowboys and Indians and yes I did play cowboy in my straw hat and ketch me the largest mohawk Indian black crappie I ever seen in there to date . Was it a lake record , well if I was inclined to put my real name out there and try to be a somebody maybe so .But my bud eats fish and in the ice chest it went all spawned out and beat down looking . I can tell you it thumped my jig like a big dog and put all 14.5 inches of mean crappie fish in it that it possessed and as I was fighting I told my bud ,you know bro , you might wanna get the net
the fish were on a ridge edge at about 10 foot deep ,the top of the ridge is a flat about that depth and the drop goes down to about 20 really fast .
plain jane unpainted jighead with a monkey milk kinda colored plastic on 6 lb slime line and 6 foot fiberglass rod . pitched out to deep water and dragged back to the ridge slow like .
KABOOM is in fact the word yawl
p.s. wish I found it pre spawn , but the lake was closed for most of the spawn duration .
