I managed a little escape from my incarceration yesterday before the sunset . I hit a little grassy flat about 45 minutes before dark and man was it on fire shallow ! I thought the first fish was a black bass it hit so hard and fought like a wild one and even tried to get some air ! The second one wasn't any different and actually broke my line in the grass ! I wasn't even aware they were right at me feet and was about 16 inches under a float and then I got a take right when I was trying to lift my jig out of the water . I shortened it up to about 8 inches and gave them a good what for . I was like oh man did I stumble on the right spot and time and thank you god for this here adventure .
I lost several and missed several and thought when the sunsets and that Big moon comes up its about to get really stupid good . Well let me tell yawl and I know you know , for whatever reason the second the sun left the sky the crappie left those beds ? I mean this lake has a history of being nada till the sunsets and on fire when the moon comes up .
So I hit another spot in the dark with the ole , I bet they are up over on that side of the lake .Got there and proceeded to NEVER get another crappie bite ? I mean yes there was lots of fish in short water and it was a bite every cast ,but the crappie were TOTALLY not there either in the dark ?
So was it KABOOM you ask , well yes and no
I did ketch crappie in the beginning and I did ketch other fish in the end , but the number of crappie I wanted to ketch was totally skewed ...is a nice way to put it and the yellow bass made me crazy when the moon came up ….
that's my story and I am sticking to it![]()
