A Slab For Slab
Got the week off and have grandkids coming on Thursday so I decided to take advantage of a beautiful March day and go try the local watering hole for a few Crappie. Ran the boat for the first time yesterday afternoon to blow out the cobwebs and cat hairs and found the water temperature a bit cold, 49 in the channel and 50-51 in the shallows. Decided to throw the old but trusty and dusty Spider Rig poles in the boat and put in at a mid lake ramp and just ride around until I found some decent looking water and favorable depth finder returns. There were several boats in the mouths of many of the large coves and creeks as I traveled upstream, so I just stopped off at a major creek mouth and started looking. With no wind I watched for birds and a few surface dimples of Shad, and soon put a half dozen minnows to work. Didn’t take long to hook up, but mainly small fish with a few Keepers thrown in every now and then. No on the water pics, I don’t do that enough (spider rig) to consider myself any good at it, and sometimes it just feels like a Keystone Kops Fire Drill exercise, especially if the wind is blowing and there are boat waves to contend with. Snapped a few pics at home, didn’t realize the Big Girl was 14in, but these were headed to my mother’s house and freezer anyway, 77 years old and she still enjoys a mess of fish.
