You mean Isopropyl Alcohol 70% (ie "rubbing alcohol"), don't you ??

My cell phone has a bad habit of correcting my spelling but yes you are right. Isopropyl alcohol can also be acquired at 99% which I also have on the shelf. I used to use it for cleaning fiber optics before splicing. The 99% will definitely remove the paint off of a rod blank.
