One of my bestest ever buds needed a break from lifes little worries , it so happens he is a customer as well and we have been friends for about 20 years .So we took off after lunch time to discuss just a little work so it could be sort of a business trip .....
AND put up the ole Bimini top on his Carolina Skiff ....cranked up some Van Halen "ice cream man " sat back in the shade a bit and sang along some ....and for sure ripped the fire out of the crappie deep in the timber .....
it was a finesse bite on them though and any heavy headed jig wasnt getting bit , you had to wait a while and let a 1/24 sink to about 24 to 26 feet down in 40 plus foot of water and watch VERY closely for the little tiny bites .....the flutter of a light bait deep will fire up a non biter everytime in the crappie world for sure ......
Now here in lies the dilemma , how does one jig between the uprights on the topper and then land the fish with an 8 foot rod ? well one has to master the ole bimini swing .....
you just do a little round the world swing in a circle kinda deal and land them up on the front deck if everything goes just right , now mind you real large ones in many cases dont make the swing sometimes do to them weak crappie lips ,but hey we was just having fun and he didn't want to many to clean anyway ,,,,kept around 20 or 25 above 11 inches and let about another limit swim on as well ...
stay tuned but don't stay thirsty yawl ....
btw that was my second trip of the day along with a doctor visit and went to work half a day as well ...so you see it is possible to ketch fish if you really want to ketch fish ...
first trip went well too ...hammered em off the bank under a float about 8 am in the river about 8 foot deep ....
