Attachment 268658I caught this guy a couple of years ago on a white bass that I was reeling in. He wasn't hooked, but had the white bass sideways in his mouth. When the tension was released, he just fell off on the dock!
Reminds me of a late buddy of mine. He was casting off the back of a marina he worked at, catching small Hybrid Striped Bass that were schooling under the streetlight over the launch ramp. After catching about 4 or 5 of these little Hybrids, he hung one that really strained the outfit he was using. :scratchhead
A few moments later, up jumped a large Largemouth Bass ... with the little Hybrid in its mouth. :yikes
I don't remember him saying he landed that Bass, but I do remember him saying that it happened several more times in the nights following. He got me to try it, but all I caught was the Hybrids. :banghead (though I did see some large Bass cruising the area, and watched the Hybrids avoid them ... all while still feeding on the minners/Shad/Silversides that were drawn in by the ramp light.
When I say white bass, it could have been a Hybrid, Yellow, or whatever. I lump em all into "Stripes" as I usually can't tell, or bother to look for the true identity. Even though this guy was fairly large, it wasn't much of a fight. Maybe because it had a mouth full of Stripe! Oh, and the Stripe lived and was released, as was the bass.
What an adventure. Bet that was exciting.
