What's the best free gps app for my phone? Needs to be able to store way points.

Anything that is free you won't be able to store very many waypoints. Huntstand is my favorite one for on land you may see if they have a fishing one available. If you are planning on storing several waypoints of brush piles I would probably recommend spending $2.99 on one that will allow you to store several waypoints

I use backwoods navigator for land (hunting) but have never marked any spots on water. Like jwilson48 said pay a few $ and get a good one.

Navonics is one I have used. They have a free one and a paid one. The paid one is 8 dollars it has a lot more features. I used it as a scouting tool for dock shooting, it showed the docks, water depth, even had road beds and submerged standing timber. It saved me a lot of time and fuel.

I'm guessing "way points" are just locations you want to map and remember how to get back to.

Have Navionics on my phone. Just make sure to have your settings correct, and check them before updating. Lost all of mine on an update. Contacted Navionics, I guess for a $10 app, they didn't care.
Was not the first time I updated it.

Well don't get the I-Boats app, for $14.99. after you get it launched then you gotta buy the "Quads" for $19.99 & it takes three (3) qauds to cover North West Mississippi!!! It was the only one that had depth contours for Moon Lake & Tunica Lake, Navionics doesn't.
