I accidently stumbled on to the bobber stop as a depth gauge recently after removing a bobber.
I think I might have found another use for those snap on bobber stops.

How does this work? Do you just see how far the stop is above the surface after the jig hits bottom?

Or they're hugging the bottom.

And don't always expect catfish to be on the bottom ... I catch them all the time when casting or trolling jigs & cranks !!

How big of a cat with bite a 1/32 jig? 1/64?

Ya know, I've always heard that crappie "feed up". I agree, sometimes. Other times I've caught some pretty big crappie crawling a marabou Roadrunner along the bottom.

As far as how big a cat you can catch goes, if it moves a cat will eat it. Don't make no difference as to size of a jig to a cat. I've caught them on big musky inline spinners and tiny 1/32 oz. tubes.

What about putting the weight on the bottom with the jig or jigs on droppers above?

I do quite a lot of jigging on the weed bed edges, especially this time of year. The depth is constantly changing and the stop can be moved up or down as a visual reference. Otherwise I'm sorta guessing where the jig is.

if the water is clear enough a few feet above them is fairly common ......below them not much
