I had a company function today that required my attendance west of Ft. Worth . My route is past a Texas State Park . Now as you might have already guessed i hold a year pass to all the State Parks here in Texas. So as i drove west about an hour i planed a little play day for me at the park , it offers a small lake full of crappie and some great wildlife and scenic viewing opportunities . It also has strategically placed fishing piers around the lake .
So with all that in mind i thought i might get to play in the park a couple of ours midday . I chatted with the rangers and they told me about a 2.7 16 1/2 fish managed right off the dock behind the park store last weekend
I had time to hit 3 different piers and 2 held crappie . The fish were in 10 to 14 foot of water parked on the bottom in the shade of the docks. i dropped a hand tie i won in a different crappie forum . Chris out of west Texas tied it and i won it so i felt obliged to see if i could rip a few lips with it . 1/32 number 6 if i remember correctly and i presented it on 4 pound clear mono dead sticked 6 inches off the bottom with an 8 foot rod .
Saw a few deer and saw a few crappie as well and ALL the fish were released including one rather large specimen for that lake . It was a bit windy and quite the bluebird day out there with abundant sunshine and i must say it was a splendid 2 hours .
hopefully yawl enjoy the read and photos ...
till the next trip ...hope you find em hungry![]()
