Thought I'd share my solution for a wall mount horizontal rod rack. I needed some way to hang rods from a cathedral ceiling without breaking the bank, and I needed it pretty quick.
Scouring the web for home made rod racks I found this article -> The Best Fishing Rod Storage Rack You Can’t Buy. <- Not exactly what I needed, but the PVC pipe hangers looked like they might be the ticket.
Visited HD to give them a look and decided they were worth a try. I bought 28 of the 1.5 inch hangers for just under a dollar each and a box of #6 x 1" sheet metal screws for ~ $5. Here's what I came up with ........
The hangers
First I use the #6 screws to connect 2 hangers together. The holes are pre-formed and the #6s fit perfectly
I ran 2 screws in from opposite sides for strength. I had measured the distance between hangers and determined the spacing before starting.
Next I cut off the top hanger to even things out - used a miter box & a back saw to keep it straight
From there you just repeat the process of joining the holders until you have as many hangers as you want
The finished product - for my purpose that was 7 hangers
Next I drilled out a few of the pre-formed holes to accept #8 deck screws - the nails provided with the hangers should hold these fine on a wall but since these are going to hang at an outward angle I wanted a little more security (and wanted to be able to remove them easily to eventually be replaced by something a little more attractive)
Built the second set and set the deck screws
(at this point they feel a little flimsy but once they're screwed in place they're pretty solid)
All that's left is to hang them and put the rods in place
The 2 sets hold 14 rods, cost a little over $30 and took about 20 minutes per set to assemble and hang.
I used the 1.5" hooks because all the rods are going to hang in the same direction, one rod per hook.
Using the 3" or 4" hooks you could easily hang 2 per hook facing opposite directions.
These aren't the most aesthetically pleasing, but they are quick, cheap and plenty strong.
You just gonna sit there an argue, or fish?

Heck ya, papadave. Great job!
Those hooks are probably the solution for my rod hanging secheation at my fish camp. I don't have alot of open wall space but I betcha I can come up with a ceiling mount deal using those pipe hangers. Big bonus will be if my buddy the pipe fitter and my neighbor at fish camp, can grab some "overstock" at work.

Hard to beat "overstock" prices!
