Choices Choices
Lakes Hartwell and Greenwood are about an hour drive for me. Going to Lake Russell, my favorite is about 1 and 1/2 hours. Driving to Clarks Hill is going to take close to 2 hours. The Santee Cooper lakes are about 3 hours away and with the price of gas these days I don't get there too ofton.
I recently got hooked on a water shed lake about 15 minutes from the house. It is open sunup to sundown and is restricted to 16 foot or less boats with 10 HP or less motors. I just bought a 14 ft flat bottom with a 9.9 Honda 4 stroke so I can fish this lake. It is 546 acres and the lake record crappie is 4 Lb. 2 Oz. May have to get over there about Friday.
Good question.
Merry Christmas All

The area where I live is called the Diamond Lakes Region. Partly because we have several deep clear reservoirs but primarily because if you drew a line from the center of the four biggest lakes it would form a diamond shape. I live in the middle of the "diamond". Twenty minutes to the east to 7,000 acre Lake Hamilton, thirty-five minutes to the west to 7,000-acre Lake Greeson, 20 minutes to the north to 50,000-acre Lake Ouachita and twenty minutes to the south to 15,000-acre Lake DeGray. I only guide on Greeson and Hamilton but if either of those lakes quit producing for me I could guide on the other two once I established some honey holes.

New to the site and love it.
I live 3 minutes from Watts Bar on the Emory River, but love to go to other lakes.

Not so lucky ? ...
even though I live in Central KY, and surrounded by lakes, they're scattered around the state. The closest lake, that I've ever fished for Crappie, is 45mins away. Herrington Lake is a DEEP, former 3star whitewater river, dammed in the 50's (when I say deep, I mean it has 200+ ft water in some places). My main local Crappie lake, Taylorsville Lake, is 1.5hrs away ...(the other lakes I have Crappie fished - Cave Run Lake is 1.5hrs away ... Green River Lake is 2hrs away ... KY/Barkley Lakes are 5hrs away ... Watts Bar Lake is 4hrs away ... Weiss Lake is 6hrs away) ......... cp

I live on Lake Hamilton, so I drive zero miles. But I also guide on Lake Greeson, which is about 45 minutes from the condo. Lake Ouachita is not far, maybe 20 minutes. But then again the home base and family is on Northeast Arkansas 3.5 hours away. Bottomline, where there is good fishing and good friends, there's where I wish to spend my remaining days.

To get crappie(8 to 10 inches) I have to go 6 to 20 miles..If I want
to get a real crappie I have to come to your place
500 miles..When you going to be home. I might have
to make a pit stop...

I am lucky. I can launch at three different Lakes in 15 minutes. Another lake is 20 minutes. Drive 30-50 more minutes to three other big lakes. these are all good fisheries on rivers. 100' depths on some of them. That makes 7 lakes just over an hour or less from my home. When I thought about this it makes me realize I live in a great place for a crappie fisherman.
