Moral to this story is, "Never Leave Fish to Find Fish"
Location: Lake Long / Lake Fields
Water Clarity: Muddy main canals, stained in the dead end canals
Tide: High as Giraffe Booty
Weather: Mostly cloudy
Wind: SE Gale Force
Baits used: 1/16 oz death grip jig head paired with big bite baits swimming minnr in the monkey milk color, 14" under a cork.
3/30/2025 Launched at the Texas Gulf Road public launch before daylight. Ran across the ICW to the canals on the south end of Lake Fields. Started pitching soft plastics 14" under a cork. Fishing was slow and highly pressured but we were getting bites. Picked up 8 Sac a Lait, 12 bull blue gill, and 12- 14" to 16" blue cats. Fish was tight to cover, the canal had plenty of shad. We figured with the fishing pressure and slow bite we decided to run to other areas to see if we could find a better, less pressured bite. Every canal we ran to on the south sidenof Lake Long was blown out with mud from the high water. We should have stayed at our first stop to grind out a slow but steady bite. Below is a pic of the area where we had the best action. If you are looking for some good catfish action, the canal on the south side of Lake Fields is loaded with 12 to 14 inch blue cats. Perfect eating size.
