I was starting to forget what the thump felt like after spending all year so far going after catfish and specks. Looked at the river stage last night and almost went to Verrett again after seeing a small rise coming from upstream. Glad I didn’t.

Hit the water around 630 with some shiners, crickets, and an 8 year old who was more eager than me to go fishing. Wind was calm and water looked good. Headed east toward alligator point to try some bass on top water but gave up by 7:30 after missing a couple and trying to avoid the gar. Trolled to the closest raft and it was on.

By 10 we were out of crickets with 10-15 bream in the livewell and sacs starting to bite. Must’ve thrown back 20-30 bream before 10 with one sac making it into the livewell. Moved to another raft when it slowed down and immediately started having some bites on shiners. Problem was trying to work them through the structure tied up around the edge of the raft. After losing a few hooks and the owners coming up we headed in for lunch.

By 12:15 we were heading back out. Headed straight to the raft we started at and had 3 sacs in the livewell in 15 minutes. Bite slowed down and we called it a day at 1. Glad to say this boy out-fished me today. Will be back soon.
