It doesn't matter how it's managed you can't please everyone. Mike Woods who was the head biologist for Louisiana at the time suggested donating them to a worthy cause. He said a thousand fish would have practically no effect on the lake. So, the first couple of years fish from the Darbonne tournament was donated to Louisiana Hunters for Heros.
