    Default Old River Problem!!

    Guys,
Friend of mine had a run in with one of those jumping fish at Old River! I’m told they are really bad at Old River when the water gets low..! I really don’t know what can b done about it, but n places where they are really bad wearing eye protection is probably a good idea!!
He was idling when he got hit...needed six stitches!!!

WoW! Linda and I took the boat out for a long overdue spin and for the first time we almost had one in the boat. I was idling along and then when I gave it the gas I scared him up right next to the boat. He jumped in the same direction as I was heading and it was right next to Linda. Six inches more and he would have made it into the boat. Freaked Linda out to have such a big fish jump so close. It was her first encounter with one.

Yeah they can be bad in Old River at times. I haven’t seen any this year though. My grandpa got hit in the back one time. Knocked him down. Definitely have to watch out for them. I’ve mainly seen them down towards Mondeau Lake (southeast part of the river) in the shallower water.

I had one jump in the boat a few weeks ago on D'Arbonne Bayou and last year one hit me in the side on the Ouachita River. They really are dangerous.

They are everywhere in Henderson now. My friend and his son were in Lake Bigeaux and this Asian carp hit him in the boat and almost knocked him out. It's bad and it's only going to get worse I'm afraid.

I went to their website and couldn't tell where their boats leave from. Nice site, but looks like they would have pics of their starting location.

I'll bet it depends MMT. I'm sure it's Henderson or Lake Martin. Where are you fishing?

They normally launch from the public launch between the interstate....they use Basin Landing when the water is this low.....when you call to book a tour they will let you know then what launch to go to....

I've been out of action since Aug. 6. My wife had surgery that resulted in complications and she was in the hospital for two weeks. She came home Thursday and I'm looking at escape to the water this Monday. Probably headed to Lacassine where it's been bad all summer. No jumping fish though.
