    Default Ramah

I’ve been looking for a places close to Baton Rouge and within paddling distance since I sold my boat. I’ve asked around about the Ramah to Bayou Sorrel area and saw a post recently about it. Got off the Ramah exit and headed south down the levee and went down and launched my kayak on the west side to the first borrow pit.
Water didn’t have much flow to it but looked good. First three hook ups turned out to be gar which didn’t help my confidence in a new area but slowly started to figure things out. All my fish came slow rolling a road runner in the cuts between the bayou and barrow pits. Had quite a few throw backs and some small bass in the mix. While making my way back I fished a couple over hanging bushes and fence posts in about 4’ of water catching a pair of good sized bream and one large chinkapen. I like the area and will probably try to make another trip there in the upcoming weeks.

Looks like a good mess of fish to me. Didn't take you long to figure them out. Congratulations!

Nice catch. If fishing during the week try false river or old river. Old river has been pretty good before the river came up. I just dont know how it is kayak fishing. False river has alot of docks to skip under. Good luck .

We have a cane farmer that lives next door who used fish false river regularly and has given us some pretty filets in the past. He catches majority of his fish in the 15 ft range most of the year and deeper in the winter. He likes to use a little bit bigger bait like the Zoom baby shad on an 1/8 jig head.
I don’t have a depth finder rigged in the kayak YET so I’ll wait to give False River a try until then.
