That's cool, I just built 4 of them myself with crepe myrtles though...Will you put all ten of them in the same spot? or spread them out? And also will they usually sink and stay upright or fall over under water? Thanks and sorry for all the questions, first time for me making brush piles.

DP this is my first time to. I'm sure we will scatter some and concentrate others. From what I have read the natural buoyancy of the bamboo should keep them upright. Any one else care to respond to that question?

I would think it's better for them to stand up. All I have heard is crappie like vertical structure.

I just made & put out 18 in my Lake's "Blu Holes" (where the Old 1880 levee broke & the River made a whirlpool hole). The Majority of the cypress lined, 800 acres of open water is only about 4 ft deep & the silt has obscured & covered up any structure. It is very quick to warm up, water temp were 60 degrees yesterday. My problem is way too many 2 - 3 # BASS & just a few "Slabs". I figure the Bass & Cats are eating up the Crappie fry. Thus I am trying to provide some type of "cover" for the crappie fry.
I have an acre of Chinese Bamboo but that stuff is big enough to frame a house, so I used native cane, stalks about finger size & 8 - 9 ft tall, with ALL the leaves on it. I inserted these bundles into the holes of concrete/cinder blocks & filled with Quik Crete. Heavy & hard to handle, but provide standing cover 8 ft tall & 3 ft in diameter. They were placed in an "L" pattern, originating from a steep bank & extending perpendicular to the bank out 30 ft, then left or right 15 ft. all in 10 - 14 ft water.
I meant to take some pictures, but got so busy, I forgot! We'll see how good these work not only as fish attractors but as shelter for the fry.
I put out 4 built out of used pallets laced with cane, but they are way too heavy & bulky & take 4 blocks to sink!

To be honest making the buckets is work. I like the idea my brother Juicy uses in using a sweet gum too weighted down with a weight and a coke bottle for float. Easier and not so bulky.
