Man, that's better than I've ever done on the amite. We have a camp in the vicinity of the old river junction. Been trying to catch anything besides catfish for the last 4 years. Any advice for crappie?
Much appreciated

Had some off time Tuesday and I fished about 4 hours. Barometer 40.46 with blue bird sky's. Windy and warm day, muddy water, 6" visibility with outgoing current. Used the (had to run the boat) excuse. Fished eddies in about 5' of water using orange crush hair jigs and the action was very slow and challenging. I did manage 5 with one nice white that I had to net. She hit hard and dove deep, I thought it was a bass. 16" n dead on 2 lbs. Had fun and the boat ran great!

Glad you got a chance to run your boat and catch that big slab. Makes it all worth it.
Nice fish!Man i would take one like that any day and be satisfied.
Ha ha, yea Tony the Tiger that's 30.46 on the pressure. Smallaxe Allen, try to get out of the current and find bushy tree tops that have good cover. Presentation and confidence is key for tight lining but of course you have to know that the fish are there first. A slow drop and stop every foot holding the jig as still as you can for 5 to 10 seconds then a slight twitch and hold still for a couple of seconds. Drop another foot and repeat. Once ya catch a few you will start to feel the jigs weight and know what presentation they want, faster or slower. I use 1/48 to 1/16 oz jigs and 6 lb test line on a graphite rod because the bite is so slight sometimes you can miss it, especially in the wind. Fish dock pilings as close as you can get to them on all sides. Sometimes you have to go to 10 or 12 foot deep to find them. Sac au lait in the Amite can be very elusive but as you can see they are there. That's the second two pounder I've caught there in the last 6 months.
Ledoux Mike, I only get to "run the boat" once or twice a week so ya know you just got to be sure it's working at all times!![]()
