Hello Everyone:
New to this board. Live just north of Lafayette, La. and will probably be taking my family to Larto for some sac a lait fishing on Sat. the 20th. Haven't done any fishing in the past few months except for crabbing and shrimping at Rockefeller Refuge. Have been to Saline one time but never been to Larto. I have pretty good directions but was wondering what areas and fishing styles seem to work the best. Will probably post end of next week for reports. Thanks Again.

Welcome aboard. I'm just south of you in Youngsville. Are you staying at Uncle bud's? Bob, the owner, is very helpful w/ the "where". If you've never fished deep open water before, it may take awhile to figure it out. but usually if it's cold they are out in the lake in about 15ft. of water. Slab Hunter is the board expert on Larto so he can help you out.
If it's not real cold, don't be afraid to cast up into the shallows(2-6 ft) w/ a cork and a jig. I caught some real slabs fishing the flats that way last year. Most people use a 3 or 4 jig rig in the deep open water of larto this time of year. Black/chart and red/chart are the best colors w/ a chartruese head.
Slab Hunter and the others are at larto this weekend. they will have plenty of reports and pics next week so that help you out.![]()

Will be only making a day trip. What landing would you recommend. I don't mind paying for a launch especially if I can get a little info from the owners.
Thanks
Uncle Bud's cabins has a launch. I think it's $3, but not positive. You can also launch at Youngbloods(I've never launched there). both launches will put you right in the middle of the fish.Originally Posted by jajc44
there's not many places to buy bait. the sanders citgo(about 1 mile past uncle bud's on right) should have shiners, but that's only place close that you can get them.
No shiners at the Citgo THIS weekend! Take everything you need when you go to Larto or you may do without. We had some great fishing there over the last 3 days. Don
