Fun fishing with Cajun Dave!
This past weekend, Dave and I were invited to head down to Grand Isle, LA and fish with his son-in-law Terry. We sure had a good time!
It was the last day of the tarpon rodeo and the roads, hotels, and beach houses were packed! A storm rolled through a little north of us and knocked out power to the island for a while, but we managed to find a store with a generator and grabbed a pizza.

We hit the dock and loaded up early Sunday and headed out about 30 miles or so to a set of rigs. Had a couple of really nice guys working with us, and they earned their keep that day.

It was a beautiful day as we headed out..saw a few dolphins, and took this picture off the back of the boat...thought was a good shot.

Dave spent some time with the captain on the way out...I can only imagine the conversation..."and then you add your onion and peppers and add some Slap Ya Mama....SON...that's good ya!"
I think he gave a recipe to everyone we met over the weekend! haha

When we stopped, we dropped down about 100 feet and waited for a thump....and they came! KA-THUMP!!! I'd forgotten how hard those salty critters can hit!
My first was a nice amberjack...which, of course were out of season.

Followed by a snapper....also out of season!

So both of those went back, but the Cajun caught a really nice cobia and brought that monster in!

We managed to catch several vermillion and mangrove snappers and such...before we moved to the next spot. I think that big cobia wore Dave slap out though. I caught him taking a break between rigs.

By the time it was over, we had 19 keepers, and threw back about 10 big snapper, some trigger fish, and several sharks, including one about 7 ft long. If we could have kept all of the edible fish we caught, there would have been a really nice pile of fish. But we had fun and caught some, no one was hurt, and we made it back safe, so it was still a great day!

Just wanted to say thanks to Terry and CD for having me along for the ride! Really enjoyed myself, and made some good memories! I spoke to Dave earlier today and found out he was every bit as sore as I am! Next time I have a trip, I need to plan ahead and start working out so I'm ready to reel!! haha
