Shame what has happened to that lake. Used to fish it alot before we moved in 85. It was a great fishery then. Shortly after moving to Florida there was an article written by Florida Wildlife commission about that lake and having sent some Florida strain Largemouths to stock with and their expectations. Wish I could find it because they had some pretty stout numbers and expectations, just short of guaranteeing a new world record largemouth from it with all the crawfish to eat. Really a shame.

Hey, Mo don't forget that 15+ lb one that came out of city park lake in BR. Still top 10 I think. But you right Caney has a bunch on the list. My son in law has fished False River a lot over the years. Many cookie jars and larger tourneys. He caught a 8lb, 7lb and 6 lb bass off the same post on the same pier in different tourneys.

Haven't been there in probably fifteen or more years (maybe longer), pretty body of water for sure with minimal standing timber. For you folks who like to go fast, it's perfect. In my mid-life crises, I bought a SeaDoo jet boat running a high performance Rotax in it. Scared Ann big time, but it would fly and turn on a dime. I go slow now, not in a hurry. Haven't a clue what my boat's top speed is now.

Did catch some nice bream on the south end with crickets though in the grass. Toted the poles and crickets on board, the ski locker in the floor held the rods nicely. Haven' thought about that in years until I saw the post False River.

I fished False River a lot in early 70's. Bought me a new 16' Ouachita Bass boat at Bonfanti's Marine in Baton Rouge. Paid $3800.00 for it with 65 Evinrude on it. Was at LSU going to school and did a lot of bass fishing around cypress trees on south end and caught good fish. Launched at Bonadventures. I have heard it has really declined. Was a real pretty lake.

I fished there a few weeks ago and couldn't even catch a decent sunburn. Talked to wildlife and fisheries people who were releasing striped bass. They recommended fishing for catfish. Not good when the targeted species is catfish since they are the most productive in a dead system.
