it is an "off & on" lake.....for me, typically the winter months are the best.....when it gets hot the gar move in & sacs head for deeper water.....also, I like the high water the best for fishing around the trees.....also in the same area is Bayou Sherman and Cheramie......right now the water is very high and all waterways around any camps or residential areas is idle speed only.....the W & F are patrolling the area for that.....I was down there on 4/15 and found good water color in a lot of places.....

As prefer shiners said it's an off and on place. Same goes for lake palourde. Although grassy lake little more consistent
I actually mostly fish it from now through summer as fish move into if from the canals once spawn is over. Its best on fairly calm days and I do best usually from daybreak til 10 before the heat kicks in It's never been a big numbers place and especially so since the last hurricane but one of the best places in south louisiana to catch big fish. But definitely keep in mind it will humble you often . On a side note you will often hook and sometimes land catfish from 5-30 lbs while sacalait fishing.
