Was sitting around the house this morning about 8 AM with plenty I needed to do, but nothing I wanted to do, when I thought of an interesting challenge - why not go to Jack Millers and see if I can put a sacalait in the boat despite the high muddy water. Got on the water about 930. I ran to the canals near lake Sullivan. Found some really nice looking water, murky but not muddy. Fished a jig from 4-8 ft of water in some of the prettiest tops I've ever had the pleasure of fishing....not a bite. I finally just tied up to the best looking tree an let some shiners soak...after 20 minutes I caught a catfish. Went exploring and surprisingly found pretty water in several canals, but no fish biting....to quote a book I recently read, "I was skunked, pole catted, and deprived of anything even remotely resembling" a sacalait.
It got colder and colder today while I was on the water and I just can't wait for the sun to come out tomorrow...still enjoyed the heck out of being out there. As long as I can remember to enjoy the beauty and serendipity of nature, catching fish is just icing on the cake...

G.f.,
Sounds like a rough day!!! Was the water muddy from jack millers landing all the way to the levee?
That area can get tuff to fish after a big rain like we just had...but it'll get good again.

Glad you were able to go. Beats sitting around the house watching the clouds that wouldn't lift. I did a little work on my greenhouse, but the cold wind and damp air made me feel cold to the bone. In fact I just took a long hot shower and feel somewhat better and now I'll go brew up a hot cup of tea to warm my innards.

DA,
the water was muddy everywhere in the main channels. In the canal that shoots off to the east between grand river and pats bay the water was nice. 8.5' deep, I really thought I could catch something in there...oh and I did pull a bass up that was about 5" long. Lol. In the canals near Sullivan lake off of the intracoastal it looked real nice too. The bull tail was a little muddy but not nearly as bad as the channel.
like the post....about sums it all up...trouble I have is not being able to appreciate all we have....I base my fishing trips on fish caught....one day i will get over that....but till then...the sacalait hunt....IS ON.........
