Years ago, when I was manager of Fort St. Jean Baptiste state park in Natchitoches, we had a guy working for the summer who was a famous Indian basket maker. We got to talking about Indian beliefs and he said there were magical songs you could sing to attract fish. One that he had personally used was the "gar fish song." He said you sit on the bank of the river or lake, let things settle down for a few minutes, and then start singing the song. The gar would ease into the bank where you were sitting and you spear them. I asked him if he knew any white perch songs but he didn't.
