Default Bell City Drain Ditch 7/27

This morning I was on my way to fish Lake Arthur and the Mermentau River. I took a detour on the way and passed over the bridge on the Drain Ditch. The water looked good so I called a friend who fishes it a lot. He said he has been catching a few on black and chartreuse. So I drove to Hayes and picked up some ice and shiners and headed back. I am glad I made the detour. I ended up keeping 36 When I got back to the landing I threw about 10 of the smaller ones back. I bet I put 60 fish in the boat today. Fish were caught on lay downs that had grass. I would start at 18 inches and work down to 5ft. I tried black and chartreuse triple tails but they wanted shiners. The day started slow till I got hit by a storm. It poured for about 20 minutes. No thunder or lightning. After the rain it was on. I caught half my fish off one top. I got some good go pro footage of that. I took a few pics of some throw backs after the go pro went dead. Today's trip was my third best this year. Name: 20140727_094300_resized.jpg

The ditch seemed about 100 miles long back when I was running a 90 Merc. I bet it's about 300 miles long in a yak. The ditch is a lot different on the upper end compared to the lower. A 7 mile total is about my limit in the heat.

Yes but there is a heck of a log and grass jam at the bridge. Next trip I am going to try it. Where I was it would be a 299.9999999 mile trip. Next week I am going to check out Lake Misere and Bayou Misere I bet it is going to look good with all that water moving that way. Nobody fishes them. Its a long haul.
