Plenty. You need an experienced mechanic to look at it. Fire on a boat isn't nice unless you can walk of water.

Didn't realize these things could give me such a headache!!.boat will start if u hold the key for a few seconds but I see smoke coming from the starter.how worried should I be?

I agree, that starter is getting way too hot.

I will echo that. Any time you see smoke you got a problem. One thing you might check is the connections to make sure they are clean and tight. But if your having to crank motor so long your starter gets that hot before it starts you have some other problem. Best take it to a shop.

Something is wrong in that scenario. Could be a loose wire, could be a bad starter could be a mouse turd in the starter but it aint right abd needed checked out. Sounds like a tune up is needed or possibly a carb cleaning as well.
