    Default Larto spawn question

I'd like to ask a question for all you seasoned fishermen.... With the weather changes we have had the last few weeks and the rain as well as water temp needed for spawning....what do u project happening for spawning. On some of the posts the fact that the ladies and their eggs seem to be ready for the spawn but the weather, rain, etc doesn't seem to be cooperating. What is happening and what are your expectations? I hope my question makes enough sense). So for Now it's back home till Tuesday and then we try again. Regardless of end result ITS GREAT TO BE AT AND ON THE LAKE. Thanks for response in advance

The spawn can be a mystery for sure. I fished larto three days this past week. The worst trip I've ever had on Larto. I caught females in two foot of water, about to bust, and couldn't catch a male around them. First time I've ever done that.
Several years ago, I never hit the spawn on Larto. Rode over to Saline and found white perch spawning all over the place. May be one of those years. I think this past week was set up to be the week. But then the lake rose a bunch. I can tell you this, normally by this time of year the spawn on Larto is winding down.

The phenomenon I have seen at Larto is if the water is rising or falling too fast, the females will not lay their eggs. They will hold them until the water stabilizes. There has been occurrences where they never laid but only once or twice in the 20 plus years I have fishing there. If that happens, they just absorb the eggs. The water is still too cold right now. I was wading in long branch the other day. When I put my hand in the water is was still cool. My thermometer in the boat said 60 degrees. But when I put my hand down past my elbow it was even colder. I think the sunlight penetration in the murky water has not warmed the water enough yet

Last week my temp. indicator and my buddies read 63-67 degrees. Normally that is plenty warm enough for them to spawn or at least hit the shallow water. The water in Larto was beautiful, not muddy at all. The only problem we could come up with, was for some reason the rise in the water had them messed up. The people I talked to fishing deep, were not catching either.

Thank you for all of the replys. I did not know the eggs were absorbed. I am definitely learning from you fellas. When my father and I fished in the river behind my house in Allen Parish (about 30 years ago) lol. The main topic of conversation was "Babe you ready to move somewhere else?" or "How about a snack" or "What's we gonna eat for supper tonight" or "your mama and I caught many fish right here in the spot where you were little". Gosh those days are some wonderful memories. Again, thanks for all the replies . Hope this week is the week! Good luck to all of you

Honey, I was raised fishing the Calcasieu in Allen parish. What area did you fish? When I was a kid, we would wade the river when it was low and fly fish. Caught lots of spotted bass and bream. Where were you raised? Thanks
