For drop shot/spider rigs I hook through the lips because I am moving. For shallow under a cork, right under the dorsal fin below the backbone, but not too far to kill them. I like the action when twitching the cork. Some of those shiners will actually surface, then slightly pull the cork under.
mermentau they look promising. Lots of times I'd like to take off a bobber when I have one on and other times I'd like to add one but I don't want to cut and retie. I solve the problem by keeping handy at least 2 rods, one with and one without but sometimes I want to fish the jig I have on another pole and thus a problem. I didn't pick any up but will next time I see some.

I think they would, I use the little rubber footballs. I leave them on all the time even if I take the bobber off.

It depends on the cover for me. If I can cast I'll go with the 5.5' light tackle or with tight cover or overhanging limbs like the Buttonwoods at Larto , I'll go with a jig pole. I'll pull out a little more line and flip into the cover and hold the line with my left hand so I can quickly pull in the line and pitch again. I like to slip cork especially in heavy cover. In open and really shallow water I will go either way. I go light with a small cork and small split shot and 1/32 or 1/16oz jig....SLIP
